Monday night hosts
A host is available for all Monday evening Duplicate Pairs sessions, so anyone coming along without a partner is guaranteed a game.  This service may be used by any player not more than 6 times in a calendar year.

This does not apply for teams evenings or special events- check the calendar

Emily Say (01628 604245) remains our  Partnership Secretary and will try to help anyone who prefers to arrange a partner in advance.

Monday Evening Seminar
with a bidding quiz for all
June 23rd, 6.45 to 7.15 p.m.

All members (whether or not they intend to go to the seminar) are urged to complete the bidding quiz and return their answers to Addis (Addis@ThePagesOnline.net) by 20th June for discussion at the Seminar.
To access the quiz use this link:
www.burnhambridgeclub.org.uk/biddingquiz23jun08.xls
The quiz will open in a new window as a spreadsheet, which can be saved on your computer.
You can then open the saved file using Excel or a similar program, fill in your answers, save it again and send the result to Addis as an attachment to an email.

There are no right answers – plenty of wrong ones!!. Addis will be giving you his recommendations but the main aim is to see how your answers match your partner’s. With that in mind, and to add to the fun, you are encouraged  to do the quiz on your own and send the answers to Addis before discussing with your partner.

Cost:              The seminar is free, but we hope you will stay on to play in our club evening at 7.30.

 Topic:            Partnership (Mis)Understandings

Do you and your favourite partner always understand what you are trying to say to each other about your hands?
Addis takes a look at some bidding sequences that you may not have talked about!

Presenter:    Addis Page

Hubert Phillips win
The Burnham quartet of Evelyn Crossley, Alan Boothroyd and two Nigels won their first round match in the Hubert Phillips (National pivot knock-out) by 80 points (that's aggregate points, not IMPs) so doubtless the seeded teams will now be quaking in their boots.

Burnham v Ascot

Our annual 24-a-side friendly match against Ascot will be held at SBBC
on Wednesday August 20th.
Burnham Team

The Burnham Club Card with the Calendar for 2008/9
and Club details is now available to collect on Club evenings.

EBU Proposals

The proposals for restructuring the financing of the EBU were accepted at a Special General Meeting of the EBU on 4th June and will take effect in 2010.  The Burnham Club and the Berks and Bucks County Association had been against the proposals

League of Eight

Burnham had five teams in the County League Eight for the past season: the A and B teams were in division 1, The C Team in Division 2 and the D Team in Division 3.  A new E team comprising Burnham Academy members was in Division 5.

In April we are nearing the end of the season.

Congratulations to the D team, who finished the season in fine style with a 17-3 victory. So after a slightly shaky start they won their last five matches, to win the league and promotion for next season.
The A team finished  4th in division 1, having had a good win over a strong New Amersham A team in early April and finishing their season with a draw against our good friends at Ascot.
The B team had a good win over Reading B  but then lost heavily to New Amersham A in April; they will finish 6th or 7th.
The C team finished a good season in 3rd position in Division 2
The E (Academy) team finished their first season with a good win against Lane End B, to finish with 4 wins and 4 losses.  Graham would like to hear from members of the team (and others) about what they would like to do in next season's League.

NICKO

Both Burnham teams lost in the first round of the National Inter-Club Knock-out.

The team of Nigel Marlow, David Beever, Addis Page, Nigel Lancaster progressed to round 4 of the NICKO Plate but lost to a strong New Amersham team, who earlier in the season defeated our other team in the NICKO.
